Devo 10 black range vs Devo 10 white was created by djtrance
Today, with a friend, we did a little range test with both tx on the ground (devo 10 black and white edition). both tx at 70 cm on the ground, and the rx is rx601, both at the same altitud. This test has not been taken in direct line of view (there are 1 car in the middle). the tx power is 20db.
the result:
devo 10b 599.36 mts (with googlemaps)
devo 10W 733.39 mts "
diference: 134 mts
some one did the same test?

They claimed the Devo10W had better range, but I've been skeptical. There are only so many things they could do to increase the range:

1) up the power to 150mW from 100mW in software. This would affect the black as well so it seemed unlikely
2) use an alternate antenna design to tradeoff directionality for range
3) use a different PA on the CYRF board with more output power. this seems unlikely as ~20dBm is about the limit before FCC gets angry
4) revamp the CYRF board to better match the antenna (or imporve efficiency via layout/noise reduction). This is possible, but swapping the CYRF module into a black should then provide the same range.

So it is definitely interesting to see there is a difference. I am not sure if 134m is within the noise or measurement or not though.

It seems the range difference caused by antenna difference only.

5dBi - 2.2dBi = 2.8dBi = 1.5 times in power = 1.22 times in range

600m * 1.22 = 732m

When i did the measure, I did it in the same time at the same position (into a car, in the back of the car with line view) and the black radio near to the white, with the same receiver (both are rx601). I'm not sure if the range can be more in the air, I listen from other guys that the range of the tx is better in the air, but I can't be sure.
I will try to do a better measure in two weeks, but this time I will use the devo 10 white, 10 black and devo F7 (i know that devo f7 can be the radio with less range, but I don't know how less must be)

The possible difference: the antennas.
Please try the test again, and use same antenna for 2 transmitter.

I only have the white version and the version black оf devo 10 have the fix and is from my friend. I will not remove the antenna of the deco black. maybe you can buy a white antenna for your devo and test it the range.
