x4r-sb not bindin devo 7e was created by Nitro_123
Hi everyone
I've done the cc2500 mod on the devo 7e and have a x4r-sb but they wont bind :(
Below is a detailed list of what I did

-installed the cc2500
-checked all the connections for shorts etc by eye. did NOT use multimeter (mine has vanished off the face of the earth...)
-backed up my model, modelico, tx, hardware files.
-flashed the latest beta
-flashed hexfet's frskyx build.
-replaced the folders, uncommented tx.ini (or was it hardware ? I made the change in the right one)
-turned on devo, selected a new model, type multi, protocol frskyx
-pushed bind and connected the battery to the receiver while holding bind/ f/s button. No bind. Red and green light both steady

I've tried turning on the tx first and then the rx and the other way round. They aren't binding.
So I think the problem is either with my wiring which i've checked twice by eye and see nothing wrong with.
As soon as I find my silly multimeter i'll do a continuity test and see if the wires are connected etc.
Am i doing something wrong with copying files across when installing hexfet's build ? I'm not too sure
I don't believe the x4r is bad.
It's probably an error by me.
Thanks for reading this wall of text !
If someone says so i'll upload pictures of the wiring :)

P.S. I live in australia if that has anything to do with the firmwares (I really dont think so)

Both LEDs permanently on actually points to a defective receiver.

as i know, deviation firmware only can bind with FrSky V or D version receiver.

They're only permanently on when i press the bind button. Else the red one is solid and the green one blinks.
IIRC that pattern isn't even on the frsky manual lol

Frsky X series receivers are in the process of being tested by some members of the community. If you can please test and help them

Do you test with other channel setting ?

1-12 channel under Frskyx menue line (may be set to 4 ,6 or 12)
ist the ( ; ) deleted at the cc2500 option at hardware.ini ?
ist the ( ; ) deleted at the has pa option on hardware.ini ?
ist the tx power at 100 mW at model menue ?

there is a option at Protocol ( press on the FRSKYX menue to get into) ther you can change the fine tune an coarse for the Freq.)
some tx modules need a little fine shift to run on the right Freq.

is the RX broken ? DOA ?

Thanks a lot alexandro. I was hoping you would reply.

No I haven't tested with different channels. I'll do it and report back.
Yes I deleted the commas in the hardware.ini in the right places.
I've tried with different tx power (3, 100, 150 mw). I'll continue testing with 100 mw
No I haven't changed the coarse or fine frequency at all. Both at zero. Should I move the coarse one or fine one first ?
Yes I now fear that the RX might be dead on arrival. Its okay since its a local dealer and I can get a replacement soon.
Can you tell me what to do with the fine and coarse channel tuning ? And how to install hexfet's build correctly ?
I installed the latest nightly and then installed hexfet's build and copied my stuff over. Transmitter works :P
I have no other rx's to bind with. I might go to a club and see if anyone uses frsky and get some help from them :)

Hello,

i think the best is to use the Fine to arround 24 or 42 ( try plus and neg.) and check it with the rssi form Telemetry ( on the Main Screen the 4 Boxes, change 1 to rssi) and find the sweet spot at arround 120 and more.
a little over 120 is at the moment the max rssi Value for Testing.

-> are the Bridges at right Place ? 5-10 and 7-9 ?

Dont forget the Range Test at Flying Field . But be careful, the TX Power Option does not the Big changing at the real Power of the TX ( may be the module cant go the deep Setting )

-> A litte Trick is to take booth Antennas from the RX into the Hand and close it full to absorb the RX power with your hand.
my RSSI jumped from 98 to 92 at lowest to max Power Setting through 2 walls and a RX at the Micro Wave ( to absorb the RX)
-> At arround 85 and lower RSSI the RX goes into Failsave and You can not longer Control the Plane. DANGER !
-> If you use the SBUS for more then 4 Servos don NOT use the Failsave Option NO SIGNAL ( on SBUS this Option set all Servos on SBUS at Failsave Event to -125 %. The same does the Taranis with latest Ver 1.XX  )

btw. im Using the CC2500 from Bango..... , the one with the blue Tape on the Shield Metal ( Picture ) and have not to change the fine and coarse Setting, all two at 0

feel free to ask again

Greetings Alex

Thanks again Alex ! I will use your positive and negative values and and report back. I will also post pictures of the soldering job
in case you can see mistakes that i might have made.
The receiver is not binding so I dont think the rssi is working sadly.
Yes the bridges are in 5-10 and 7-9
I am also using the same cc2500 module from banggood . I will ask around if someone has a taranis and can bind with the rx. If yes then my tx is bad :(
Thanks and I will keep you updated

Do you do the Bind the Right way ?

1st press Button on RX and Power it on ( booth Lights are On and Solid)
2nd go into Model Menu and change the Number at the Bind Key, for secure
3rd press The Bind on the Model Menu and watch the Lights on RX ( here the Red one has to Blink now to confirm the right Binding Process)
4th Power off and on the RX ( the green Led has to be Solid on and the red off )

can it be a D8 mode activated at your RX ?
the x8r has this Option

the x8r has this Option

But the X4RSB does not have this option.
Anyways, until the protocol is not finished, I would not get a X4RSB but a X8R which can be set a least to D8
Another problem might be that the X4RSB has a 16 channel sbus output and the X8R only 8 channels ( 1-8 or 9-16) and the devo only can be set to 12 channels.

Edit: But there is a an option for all these problems usings Deviation&CC2500 , FrSky and SBUS (inverted), it's a F802 with Midelic's firmware.( PWM; PPM, 8CH SBUS & telemetry.)
www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s...4153a7bc8d&t=2124647

Edit2: At this moment the only disadvantage is, that the Deviation protocol for D8 is restricted to 8 channels max.
No option to select more than this if using SBUS.. Last year I was testing a firmware for 16 channels on this rx.

my 2 ct.

X8R SBUS does Channel 1-12 on Deviation and 1-16 on Taranis via the SBUS Port on the RX
with a Y Cable you can use more SBUS to PWB Decoder and switch all Decoder to your Number you want have .
And it works para. with the Output 1-8 from the RX , you can then use more then 1 Servo on the same Channel

EDIT:
The 801 does not have the RX Amplifier and does not have Diversity , i think the range is around 40 % lower as the X Version from Frsky.
only the 802 Hardware have the RX Amplifier but only 1 Antenna -> no Diversity

It can be a problem with 7E version of the code or the X4R-SB maybe flashed with some European crap firmware.
When I developed the code I tested with X4R-SB so I know it is working.

Ok, somewhat unprecise my post, was refering to the jumper table in the rx manual.and the possible
jumper settings on a X8 compared to the X4RSB which is D16 only.

I've been thinking about that too midelic. I should ask the seller what version is on the receivers.
Keep up your good work with the diy modules. I wanted to buy one but it was out of stock and so I got a x4r
Now since you're making those compatible with xjt i'll buy a diy one :D
@alex Yes I have been doing my binding like that. I also did it like this
Press bind on transmitter
Hold bind on rx and plug power in
When binding finish reboot rx and tx
Binding never finished :(
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Going to try all this tomorrow.
I will post pictures of the soldering tomorrow. Please tell me if there are any problems :)

But a nice dipole antenna and not only unshielded antenna tips... ;) If this antenna is well-placed it works really good.

Is there any reaction at all on the rx LEDs when you press bind on the tx, or no change?

I did check the code to make sure only the extended telemetry is removed from the 7e build. Which doesn't rule out some other code issue.

Tough when there are two unknowns. As you suggested recommend trying the rx with a known good tx, and vice-versa.

Update: I tried different coarse and fine tuning settings and also different numbers of channels. Still nothing.
To clarify right now the x4r when powered is doing this:
Red light permanently on with green light flashing in 1-2 seconds.
When i press the bind button on the rx it is doing this:
Both lights on solid:
No bind.
It might be a problem with the cc2500 itself. Uploading pictures of soldering now.
I will test binding it to my super cp and report back too
P.S. I've sort of given up right now since i need to meet someone with a known good tx/rx to actually do some testing .
Anyone willing to help in the sydney parramatta region or know of rc clubs around here are welcome.

Here is the google drive link. I tore out one of the soldered wires when removing the tape to take the pictures. Can confirm it was connected before.
previously I had used shrink tubing and hot glue to secure the connections but now i'm going to use electrical tape until im sure it works
