Regarding DEVO 8S warning about recent tx was created by RacingSOUL
Hello everyone,
I just received my v120d02s v2/new and devo 8S combo from China and want to flash it with the newest deviation firmware. However I came across this message:
"Warning to Devo8/8s users: If you have a very recent transmitter, only the nightly builds of Deviation will work for you and it will be impossible to go back to the stock firmware until Walkera posts updated firmware on their site. If in doubt, ask on the forums first."
I searched this forum and only found one case, in which the font on tx was corrupted. Are there any other issues that can occur after flashing deviation firmware on to devo 8S?
Another question is how can I check if my transmitter is of the recent production batch?
Please excuse me, if these questions were answered already in other threads
Thanks in advance!

Check label inside battery box Devo 8s (to the left from battery). If firmware version is v1.0, A or B, then you have the latest batch of Devo 8s. At that case you can't return back to original Walkera firmware, until Walkera will post to public this v1.0 firmware.

So, it seems that I indeed have latest batch of transmitters - label inside battery box says 1.0A.
I think I will wait until stable release for this transmitter, because nightlys could be quite unstable.
Luckily I still have Turnigy 9x to fall back to)

The official 3.0.0 release is quite stable - you could fall back to this. But I understand that you prefer to wait...RacingSOUL wrote: ...I think I will wait until stable release for this transmitter, because nightlys could be quite unstable...

He can't use official v3.00 release since his Devo 8s has new LCD. But current nightly builds are quite stable. I use it without problems.

Oops, you're right. I forgot that the new LCD was supported past 3.0.0 (5 weeks; too far to assume it is still near 3.0.0).

There is a bunch of churn going on as there has been a lot of development lately, and there's still a bit more in the pipe. Given that he cannot go back to a previous build, and cannot go back to Walkera's firmware, I'd probably recommend waiting for the next stable release unless he's willing to live on the bleeding edge. I don't think we are too far from the next release though.

PhracturedBlue, rbe2012, vlad_vy,
Thank you very much for your replies! I will follow your advice to wait for an upcoming deviation update; also it is awesome that it is around the corner

Ack. It didn't need deleting, It needed modification (which I'd already done).
The warning is still needed. I'll put it back

Then you have nothing to be afraid - 3.0.0 Stable supports your TX.

Hello everyone.
I've got a Devo 8 which doesn't have any notes near the battery. But in the chapter "About" in my system it says:
Hardware: Ver. 2.0
Software: Ver. 0.3A
Can I use the latest Deviation Firmware Version 3.0 on my Transmitter?
Thanks

Hi, im wondering what will happen if i flash my transmitter, (newest modell, deviation 3.0 nightly) back with the released 1.0A from Walkera?
Will it brick? Or will it just do nothing and run the Deviation Firmware?

If you install the wrong version it will not be able to communicate with the display so you will have a black/grey/otherwise unreadable screen.
You can reflash with a version (devention or deviation) which supports the new display and everything will work again.

Ah, ok... this seems logical to me.
Probably write it down to the warning, so Nooby's like me dont have to ask so much senseless things...
