Bulk erase flash memory before first use

Do we need bulk erase flash memory before first use? Just for sure it will be filled by "1".

For example, we can bulk erase flash memory if the filesystem can't be mounted (USB logo), within FS_Mount(NULL, NULL).

I don't think that it would solve anything.
It would be similar to a "low level formatting", but that isn't needed.
The mounting process is software only, and usually fails because of a driver issue.
If the FAT table is correct, the other contents are ignored at that phase I think...
