There are 10 types of people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.

Hi guys, I just got two more "cc2500" chips in the mail, so I have a 3 flavors now.
Where do we stand on Skyartec and Frsky? I know Frsky has been put on the back burner for the moment, but is the skyartec protocol working ok? I don't have anything to test it with at the moment.
Cheers

Hi
I also now have three flavours. Even got an "original" skyartec. As I will only fly the skyartec - is it correct to assume that the "original" skyartec module will be the best?
I'll hand my Devo-10 to my soldering specialist for installation soon. Hope for a recommandation!!
Thanks...

HI
My professional soldering friend has got the modules - as I only am looking for Skyartec binding i will use the skyartec module.
But my friend opened the radio (Devo 10) and tells med that reality do not fit the map as in the moduleinstallation pdf.
Could You point out in the image where to connect the new module?
Thanks..

So if i use the Skyartec module:
Skyartec - Devo 10
Pin 6 - Cyrf module pin 3
Pin 1,9,10 - Devo PCB PIN VDD
Pin 8 - Devo PCB PIN TMS+TCK (Both)
Pin 3 - Cyrf module pin 2
Pin 2 - Cyrf module pin 4
Pin 4 - Cyrf module pin 5
I think this will be correct - or have I misunderstood the table?
Thanks..

Pin 8 - Devo PCB PIN TMS or TCK
By default TMS pin used for A7105, TCK pin used for CC2500.
You need to find the ‘[modules]’ section and set the ‘enable-a7105’ or ‘enable-cc2500’ as
follows:
• Using TMS: ‘A13’
• Using TCK: ‘A14’
Also make sure the corresponding ‘has_pa-a7105’ or ‘has_pa-cc2500’ is set to ‘1’
By default TMS pin used for A7105, TCK pin used for CC2500.

HI
We now have done the soldering as it should be. The radio battery went empty so we could not make the testing, som we put everything nicely back together.
The tx.ini files look like this on my computer:
[modules]
; enable-cyrf6936 = B12
; has_pa-cyrf6936 = 1
; enable-a7105 = A13
; has_pa-a7105 = 1
; enable-cc2500 = A14
; has_pa-cc2500 = 1
I guess I remove the ; and space as follows:
[modules]
; enable-cyrf6936 = B12
; has_pa-cyrf6936 = 1
; enable-a7105 = A13
; has_pa-a7105 = 1
enable-cc2500 = A14
has_pa-cc2500 = 1
Right?(As we soldered pin 8 to TCK)
Charging my radio battery at the moment - cant wait....

HI guys..
I've just got the Skyartec mocule installed - and to You - maybe no surprise - but to me it was - IT WORKED!!!!
Have just made all the controls go in the right direction - had to reverse the Elevator - but I have to adjust the radio because i get to much action on the servos. I'll try more another day - work tomorrow.
But bound to both my Skyartec Nano Cp and Skyartec X3V.
I'll test more and if this is interesting I'll post some results here. OK?
Thanks to You all

HI
Tested the radio with the skyartec module and Devo 10 today - and everything works perfect for me, exept distance. I walked about 50-60 meters when i lost the signal. Bound the heli to the Skyartec Nasa701 radio and I walked 200 meters away - still having signal - did not test any further - far enough for a 300 size heli.
For the Skyartec Nano 50-60 meters is quite acceptable but for the Skyartec X3V i would like to have more distance.
Could it be as simple as connecting an extra antenna - drill a hole in the Devo 10 and fit a second antenna connecting it to the antenna port on the skyartec module?
Any suggestions? Thoughs?
Thanks..
Stein

How does your tx.ini look like? Did you enable PA for your module?

Hi Stein,
See my mods on the Devo8s, you could of course do something similar, except you have less space with AUX4/5 which is where I fitted the external antennas.

I have not tested yet, but then also I have used the square CC2500+PA module and not the Skyartec one. (I did confirm with a Spectrum analyser that I do get upto +/-20dBm when set to max 150mW, and flown the V911 and Hubsan, but nothing further than 15 metres.)
What antenna do you have on the Skyartec module? Mine came without an antenna like this below. It has a 20dBm PA, with a proper external antenna you should get you 200-300 metres as well.

HI
Same module i got. But i also bought the two other ones mentioned here at the forum - an there was an antenna in both of them and in one there also was an antenna wire.. It has as little connector to go on the original module but i guess mye electroprofessional friend can manage to cut it off and connect it to the skyartec module.
And i do not use the aux buttons - so i guess i can remove one of them...??

That is the module I used. The antenna also looks the same and should work fine with the Skyartec module. When soldering it don't cut the wire shorter, just remove the small connector and solder it to the module. Solder both the outer and inner wires to the respective pads.

Hi Stein
I had my modules confused - I get the same 18-20dBm output from the CYRF and the XL7015 modules, both using external antennas. BUT having check the CC2500 module+PA module for the Skyartec mode, the power is very low and stays the same whatever I do from Deviation side, I guess about 1dBm which could explain your range issues.
I remember SUVSUV had a fix in his repository to fix a power issue on this module, I guess it did not make it into Deviation yet.

HI RandMetal..
I looked for SUVSUV's solution but did not find anything.
But do You think this is a software issue or a hardware issue?
I soldered a little wire (same length as the antenna wire on the Nano CP) to the antennaconnection on the skyartec module getting a distance of aprox 60m. If output still low - i guess adding a antenna will not do any difference?
But for now i can fly my Skyartecs - just watch out not getting to far away. Fun software to work with - trying to make the mixer work with different settings according to swithches.
Hope the powerissue will be solved soon - hardware or software.
Thanks again..
Stein

The low power output is a software issue, although I guess it could be hardware if your module doesn't have an amplifier. The current code does not set the power output of the CC2500 so it's running at default medium power. The fix is simply to set the power output on the CC2500 to maximum (or whatever you want). It's a simple one line fix in skyartec_init().
Here is a patch for the current deviation code that sets it to maximum power (untested because I don't run deviation). Make sure you have a proper antenna connected because at maximum power with no antenna (or a bad antenna) it could burn up the amplifier.
That CC2500_3E_PATABLE "0xff" value can be reduced for lower power output. I see some of the FrSky code uses a lower "0xfe" instead (I don't know why).
These are all the possible values:
Note this is the power output from the CC2500 which it what gets fed to the power amplifier that pushes it higher. So +1dBm on the CC2500 is I believe approximately +20dBm output from the power amp.
