As you know, AR6100E is one of the cheapest receivers among spektrum receivers.

Today I did a simple range test with AR6100E in an open space.

For the test, a power of devo 8s was first set to 100umW.

The maximal distance was 9 meters.

In the next test, I changed the power setting to 300umW.

I got 16 meters.

Since the power of TX can be set to 150mW, the maximal distance will roughly be 9 meters x sqrt(150mW/100umW) = 348 meters.

Of course, the range may practically be less than theoretical number.

Out of interest, I did my first flights with deviation today with an OrangeRx R610. The arial placement I was not happy with but its just a short stub anyway. It went directly vertical into the foam of a foam wing which holds 2 carbon fiber spars for and aft (~4cm away each side) of the arial. On 100mW it went out of range at about 165ish meters at low level flight. Then at 150mW I could flight at the edge of sight for this foam wing, probably around 400m at long grass level height and maintained full control. I don't like the receivers personally and would only put them into cheap foamies myself, they are good, that's just a personal issue. I don't use the satellite receiver with it but obviously that would make it more reliable at range. They are cheap and I like them for park fly foam wings and similar.

Just as a note, I tested my Walkera RX802 with the DEVO 10 at 100uW and the range was right at 100 yards in perfect line of sight condtitions. Any movement of the antenna from perpendicular or any blockage would disrupt the signal.
The RX has 2 longish antennas that are installed inside the balsawood model. I was pretty impressed... but the reason for the range check was because I've lately been having broken connections with my V120D02s and my airplane while flying ! The models are going into fail safe mode for 1-2 seconds and coming out. I can't figure out what the problem is. I may try to reinstall the deviation firmware but right now I am not able to do so as the Dfuse doesn't see my DEVO !!! Yikes!

Any ideas welcomed.

John

I think that the sensitivity of antenna of RX802 is higher than that of V120D02s. So the range for the v120D02s would be shorter than RX802. However, although I consider its high efficiency, the range is much longer than I expected.

When I did a range test with my mini cp, the range is only 9~10 meters (roughly 10~11 yards?) with 100uW setting. Did you have a range test result with v120d02s?

I have not tested the v120D02s yet, but when I get home... maybe Sunday I'll give it a try at 100uw and post.
