What RX for DEVO8s? DSSS vs DMSX was created by ricksonchow
As I have used the Deviation 4.0.1 firmware, both protocols are supported by my TX now. I am considering the DEVO RX802 (DSSS) and the Orange R800x (DSMX). Both are around similar price range, so just want to know which one will be better in terms for range and stability with my Devo 8S. Thanks for advance:)

I think they both have same range, but DSMX is more immune to interference.

If you need 11ms for servos, you can use DEVO RX802 (selected by button in Rx).

dsmx 11ms is the size of the packet transmission framewidth between TX and rx, why would servo's require an 11ms framerate?

Rx PWM output 22ms for analog and digital servo
Rx PWM output 11ms for digital servo only

DSMX 11ms only applies to servo ports AILE, ELEV, and AUX1 in early radios (thru DX8) and adds RUDD in DX10t and above. The other channels are transmitted at 22ms refresh rates.

yes I know that thanks, it was initially aimed at eccpm heli flyers mostly. I just wondered why you said 11ms if the servos need it, as no servo's actually need 11ms framewidth.

Thanks for everyone's in put. As I am going to use it on a plane so I do not need super quick respond time. But what make me concern is the reliability of my Deviation DEVO 8S. As it is designed to use with DSSS, I am not sure if the DSMX will be as stable as the DSSS or the is no difference (only focusing on TX)

DSSS is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum, it's a modulation technique over the entire 2.4Ghz band. It's not an attribute of the protocols but of the underlying hardware (or the way it's configured to transmit).

Both Devo and DSMX are DSSS/FHSS basically, DEVO works on 3 fixed channels while DSMX hops between (iirc) 23 channels.

Hope I cleared things up (Wikipedia is your friend).

Hey Rick, Don't sweat it I get full control at over 20m at the lowest power settings on both my 12s and 8s and I'm using them on my 700e and new gaui nx4 :) and thats on a dsmx ar7200bx, never a glitch on either of them. Stick them on your planes and I can fly them too when you come back :woohoo: long live the jets...and team tornado :silly:

Thanks for replying and yes, you really cleared things up :D

So seems a DSMX receiver will be a better choice!
