DEVO 10 Left and Right TRIM assignment help

OK so im trying to use the TRIM_L and TRIM_R to control a timer but i cant figure out how to assign anything to them.
can anyone assist, im a little lost on this one.

Could have misunderstood but I believe the OP is asking about the trim POT's, not the buttons...

nope, im asking about the two trim buttons TRIM_L and TRIM_R

oh, I was confused cause there's more than one set of trims, that's good cause that's what it's easy to use. So just to be clear, you're asking about the right stick left-right (AIL) trimmers? Or the left stick left-right (YAW) trimmers?

I actually figured it out. i have my upper left trim as TRIM UP = start a 5 min countdown timer and TRIM DOWN reset that timer back to 5 min

My guess would be that Cerial_Killer has devo 7e, because that transmitter does not have these 2 extra trim buttons. The other devo transmitters have those 2 extra buttons.

The top left trim is set so to control a timer. that timer starts at 5 min (or whatever i decide) and when i click it UP the timer starts, if i click it up again it pauses the timer, and if i click down it resets to 5 min.

Im going to use this as a battery flying time timer.

I could also make that timer a stop watch with start stop and reset all on that switch which i may do instead, i haven't really decided yet.

Why do you feel the need to start/stop the timer buy hand? There are a number of automatic ways to do so. One or the other of them work more reliably than trying to remember to switch it by hand for everything but my rc yacht - which doesn't have a motor anyway.

Connected to the throttle is a good way, timer automatically counts down when throttle stick is above a certain percentage and stops whenever the throttle is below the set percentage. Works very well, and you can't forget to stop and start it. Can also be reset by a push of a button if you desire.
