Frsky XM + Micro D16 RSSI ? was created by DJDavid33
Hello I use a receiver Frsky XM + Micro D16 on my Devo10 with a module CC2500 it works very well.
But I would like to know if it is possible to have telemetry with this receiver, I will like with just RSSI
Which Nightly Builds do I need? thank you

Any recent nightly builds found in the download section can decode Frsky telemetry but you should take the latest one.

XM+ has no telemetry. It feeds RSSI to either an output pin on board or ch16 by flasing the appropriate FW. Take a look at XSR instead.

If you do not need 16 channels, there are also 8-ch mini receivers with embedded telemetry. Here is an example:

Hello and thank you for your answer.
I did not understand everything with the translation (I'm french)
I have installed the version deviation-devo10-v5.0.0-55a81f3. Now I see the RSSIChan in the settings of FrskyX I have mi LastChan.
But in betaflight I do not see the RSSI signal.
Need to solder a wire on the RX Frsky XM + Micro D16 or is there a slot on the rx?
And once I add this wire I connect it or on the flight controller?
thank you

Just to clarify:

if you use XM+ receiver, you can only display RSSI on OSD no matter what method you use

if you want to display RSSI on Devo radio transmitter with Deviation installed, get a XSR receiver or others with embedded telemetry

Sorry but I do not fly betaflight but you can google on the web, for example:

You can get better ideas and concepts via google or youtube.

Since the original question has been answered, I'm hijacking this thread for a very related question.

I ordered two XM+ receivers for my miniquads, since they seemed the best bang per buck - I've been very happy flying FrSky micros with my multimodule-equipped Devo 10 and I don't need telemetry on the transmitter itself, OSD is fine. I thought they output RSSI on ch16 by default, but:

I've googled on how to flash these, and every guide I can find says "plug it into your Taranis transmitter, then...". Except I don't happen to have one - the whole point of getting the Devo was to have One Transmitter To Fly Them All.

How do I do it then?

If needed I have both a FTDI serial adapter and a STM32 flasher.

Unfortunately I also use Taranis to flash the receiver. It seems you need this gadget if you don't have the Taranis:

I however have no knowledge about it.

I flash an XSR with an FTDI adapter but it takes a bit of extra circuitry. Two things are required. One is that the TX and RX signals must be inverted. If you have an adapter with real FTDI chip, download FT_Prog and you can invert the signals by changing configuration. Otherwise you'll need a circuit to invert the signals.

Second the RX and TX lines from the FTDI are tied together with a diode before connecting to the s.port line. A schematic used to be in Frsky's programming guide but looks like it was removed from the latest version. I've attached an older version; circuit is on last page.

One quirk of the Frsky firmware upgrade tool (at least on Windows) is the order of operations. The successful sequence is:
- connect programming circuit to PC and receiver, but leave receiver powered off
- start upgrade tool, set serial port, and load firmware file (utility status changes to something like "searching for device")
- apply power to receiver and the utility should find the device
- click Download on the utility window
The utility will start flashing the device. Good luck.

Oh I learn something new everyday. It seems interesting. Here is a bit more information from the web:

@Fallingwater
Judging from hexfet's reply there exists FTDI board with fake chip. Although it works for general purpose, it might not be able to work with PT Prog (original FTDI utility).

How would I know if my adapter has a real FTDI chip? I bought it on eBay for a grand total of $4 shipped, if that's of any help.

The more I look into this the more it looks like the best option is just to find someone who has a Taranis, ask for the favour and pay with a coffee. Which would easy as pie if I didn't live in a podunk hillside town in the arse end of nowhere.

Download FT_Prog and see if it finds your device and can configure it.

Firmware update succesfully on XM+ with real FTDI adapter and a 2.2k resistor

Solder the resistor between the RX and TX pins of the FTDI. Connect the signal wire of the receiver to RX and GND to GND. Make 5V pluggable or switchable to the receiver.

Use FT_Tool to invert RX and TX of the FTDI, then use frsky's "SPORT upgrade" tool to flash the receiver. Select the COM port, select the file (make sure you got the right one, XM+, not XM), and when it starts "searching for device", apply 5V to the receiver to power it. It will then allow you to flash.
