Devo7e control set up was created by Bry1
Hi all
I have just modded my Devo 7e, I am using it to control a twin motor bait boat which has been rewired and upgraded to 2.4ghz. The boat has two torpedo motors each controlled by separate esc. These are Mtroniks 15’s the left stick controls the right motor and the right stick controls the left motor.
The problems I’m have are the right hand motor doesn’t sound it is running at the same max rpm as the other motor
The other problem is when I put both motors into reverse the left motor runs intermittently until I reduce the rpm on the right motor,
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem maybe
I ave also added a third switch to the transmitter as this operates a bait dropper, the other two original switches operate the lights and a fish finder on the boat.

Try
swap the channels for escs to determine if esc/motor problem or Tx/Rx problem.
Calibrate Tx
Calibrate ESCs

Hi Gerry
Thanks for the reply, I have already done what you have suggested but it just transferred the problem to the other motor.
But it has now got worse and the right hand esc is now blowing fuses!
I’m assuming that the esc,s have now blown?
It has also been suggested the best way to have the controls is to add a mixer and have the throttles for both motors and steering on one stick?

what about if only one esc is plugged into the rx at a time.
have you disconnected one of the red wires from one esc at the servo lead?

Any progress?
you could also swap motors on each esc to determine if motor or esc is problem.
make sure both motors spin free by hand.
are you spinning one motor CW and the other CCW? some brushed motors might not like spinning backwards.
is there a brake function on the escs? should be forward and reverse only for boat, no brake.
I too would have suggested a master throttle and a mixer arrangement for control on one stick.

Hi
I have been running my boat and it has been ok apart from the intermittent running of the motors when in reverse at full throttle, I even changed the motors but still had the problem.
I have decided that it would be easier I’d I could control the forward/ reverse and steering from one stick, what is the easiest way to do this?

So I have now fitted the mixer and both motors run using the one stick but when I use the stick to steer the boat on of the motors cuts out, can the devo 7e be set up so it just slows one of the motors down giving a smooth steering action?

something like this I think works..........
master throttle on throttle stick
aileron stick slows one motor or the other
you could swap the aileron for rudder and have all control on one stick (mode 2)
adjust scalar and or 3 point curve values in second mixer page of each channel to tune.
Model file attached below.
[channel1]
template=complex
[mixer]
src=THR
dest=Ch1

src=AIL
dest=Ch1
scalar=60
usetrim=0
muxtype=add
curvetype=3point
points=0,0,-50
[channel2]

src=!AIL

usetrim=0

Hi
Both motors ran but in opposite directions when the left stick was pushed forward and I had no steering control on the left to right movement on the left stick

your description makes me think one of your esc is not calibrated correctly.
swap the channels the esc's are using on the rx to check if same side still spins opposite direction or other side.
If this is the case use mix like couple posts above and re-calibrate esc's.
on the second page of both mixes make the scalar 100, see if that makes a difference.

Ok so I have now put all settings back to simple mode.
Stick mode 1
Connected up the mixer again and I can get both motors to run on the one stick and both are going in the correct direction.
When I push the stick forward and then start to move it to the right the left motor cuts out!!!
Well confused!!
Still need to get smoother steering control On the same stick set up?

Hi
First of all thanks for the help Gerry
I have now managed to sort out a few of the issues and have the set up working, the only issue I have at the moment is the motors are spinning in opposite directions, I assuming this will be simply swapping the polarity of the incorrect motor,
