I am thinking of using pin 89 or 90.
What would happen if i short these two? i think the easiest way to solder to these pads is to solder a wire in the middle of these 2, but that would maen i have to short pin 89 and 90. Is that an option or a nono?

it looks like these 2 pins are already shorten by the walkera factory in my case.

I wouldn't do that.
If you put a fair amount of soldering pasta around, they won't be shorted. It is a challenge to keep the wire still there until the solder cools down though...

89 is B3, 90 B4. Either seems like a good choice for the 6s (and 8 ).

Do you have Kapton tape? I used it to mask off the adjacent pins and it worked nicely. When I soldered to my 6s I masked the pin, then put a small drop of solder on my iron and touched it to leave it on the pin. Then positioned the wire and kept it in place with another piece of tape. Touch the wire to melt the solder and all done.

I heard that an alternative to the tape is White-out... but I haven't used it.

I'll probably practice on another (dead) board first...

I found 3-in-1 module CC2500 chip has short telemetry range problem,as the same indoor test condition,D4R-II frsky protocol 3mw control range almost reach 3rd floor , but telemetry only 0.5~0.7 floor, I did same test for few times it gets same result, if I used DEVO 8S+CC2500, telemetry range is almost same as control range :(

By the way, how can I get RSSI telemetry data on my 8S ???

This picture is provided by TaoBao seller, 3-in-1 module.

and I get some information:
1, 3-in-1 module(not enough MCU pin) can NOT use/enable LNA, it results short telemetry range problem.
Need to change MCU to fix it at next version.

2, 4-in-1 module can use LNA except A7105 chip.

I'll wait for the next 3-1 then, but as always, how will you know it's the next revision. There is no mention of version on the pcb.

Thx dc59 for keeping us in the loop.

Regarding new version, I will let you know if I got answer.

The 4-in-1 module picture also provided by seller.

On both modules I do not like the RF path, the length of pcb traces containing RF signal should be minimal at such 2.4Ghz frequency, I doubt that his is matched very well.
Small mm or unmatched traces length can allready cause mismatch and losses.

I would first orient all RF outputs, to the switch and PA, with short lines and then place the other components.

It would be more easy using thin solid enamel coated wire for such connections.
Straightened and fixated on the board or glued to the chip, it will be just a tap with the iron.
E.g, the tail motor wire on a SuperCP has just the right pitch.

Telemetry is not depending on the transmitter output, but on it's working LNA and/or the output at the receiver.
Looks to me as if the LNA is not activ.
I am using two F802 with Midelic's firmware with a CC2500 module on the 7e or a DFT module on my Futaba and get telemetry still beyond 500m.

Edit:..meanwhile read the LNA could not be used, what a pitty.

I think i forgot to take breath for a few minutes, but i also think the first step was succesfull.

The rest is for tomorrow.

This is the 8s, pin 89. I suppose i should use B3 as pin select in the hardware.ini?

That's the port that is used by that pin. Let us know if it doesn't work.

Nice solder work!

Easy if you prepare well and take your time. A clean soldering iron helps.

Thanks for Hexfet's help, now I can get RSSI data on my 8S, but it's only be displayed at main page.

Is it possible to move it to telemetry monitor page?

hello again.

I can confirm that dc59 method to ad a third module also works on the Devo 8S. I used pin 89 to solder the csn to.
this is my hardware.ini:

;Only useful for transmitters with an after-market vibration motor
;enable-haptic=1
;
;switch_types: 3x2, 3x1, 2x2
;extra-switches=
;
;button_types: trim-all, trim-(left|right)-(up|down|both)
;May occur more than once if necessary.
;extra-buttons=
;
[modules]
; there is no need to enable the cyrf6936 module unless
; it is wired to an alternate port. It is Enabled automatically otherwise
; enable-cyrf6936 = B12
; has_pa-cyrf6936 = 1
enable-a7105 = A14
has_pa-a7105 = 1
enable-cc2500 = B3
has_pa-cc2500 = 1
enable-nrf24l01 = A13
has_pa-nrf24l01 = 1
; enable-multimod = A13

and all modules are recognized.

I have a frsky rx on the way, so i can only test when that arrives. But all looks good.

Thanks.

Tom
