Hi,
According to photos, this quad is using a CYRF6936 so this protocol could be implemented into deviationx I guess ?
Nobody is working on this one ?

Wondering the same thing. Has the Traxxas Alias been looked at yet, or is it just not a big enough contender time-wise for the people that might work on it?

Pretty expensive for a brushed aircraft with a reputation of motors going bad in under 20 flights.

The main requirement is the availability of inexpensive transmitters/receivers. The few of us who have done protocol work need to obtain hardware to analyze, and if it is not reasonably priced, we're unlikley to purchase it just for the challenge.

Transmitter is sold out there, but was on sale for 19 USD.
Transmitter on eBay (US):

Does anyone has an idea of accessibility of the radio chip in TX? Detailed photo of TX board? Also, is this protocol bidirectional - does it have telemetry or does the TX reports binding?

For sure it's CYRF6936 based ....

Best pics I found on net:
www.icbhobbies.com/assets/images/107907-1.jpg
www.dollarhobbyz.com/media/catalog/produ.../alias_receiver2.jpg
RF chip is 40 pin QFN, which matches CYRF.
About Telemetry:
Websites say that it reports battery status.
"Thoughtful design touches abound including the telemetry powered battery fuel gauge that provides visual and audible alerts when it's time to recharge the flight battery. "

Will this board fit V929 - I am reluctant to buy this stuff for pure joy of reverse engineering it and not being able to fly it myself

I cannot see holes for the screws to hold the board in place.
Also the Motor connectors are different and unknown to me.
www.monsterhopups.de/traxxas-latrax-moto...i-17111.html?invis=0
(and you can see that motors+connectors are way too expensive
)
Anyway a nice Idea I was already thinking about. Have some spare V929 parts laying around.

I have spare V929 for this purpose, I still can not understand is it worth extra $45 investment into this protocol. Is it so much better than anything else of this size?
I've seen the discussion that actual motors are very similar to V929.

No idea, I don't own one.
I think the basic idea was that its using the CYRF, thus requiring no hardware mod to make it work with Deviation.
Traxxas is said to have 'full 3D' mode (expert 2) without auto-leveling, allowing 3D flight ... possibly like Walkera 6 Axis vs 3 Axis mode, but not too sure about that.
The most agile and stunt-able (Toy-) Quadcopter I own myself in that size-class is a V959 (V929 arms to be precise) w/o landing gear and gadget but with V222 board and using XinXun/Jamara X30 Transmitter (TX Looks like that from JD-185/385). But that's all auto-levelling stuff w/o real 3D ... (though flying with 45° forward tilt and then doing air-brake plus 180° turn is *fun* )

I have 12 small quads. The Alias is the most maneuverable. The only one that has more zip and power than the Alias is the Xtreme. The first time I flew it though, I knew the Alias was a real keeper. So, yes, I like it!

Victor, I wish I had paid attention to this thread......I would have sent you my Alias for reverse-engineering. I think it flies like crap myself.

Oops! But thank you for the offer.
What's wrong with it? They claim to have 2 modes with auto-leveling and one without, just like Xtreme.

In all fairness I had to replace the stock motors with V212 motors. I'm sure in acro mode it's a blast but in stabilized mode my Frankenyaw is better.
