Need EMU How To Use was created by gapi
Hi, Mr. Hard Head is Back, FYI I have DEVO 10.

I am attaching a screen shot of what I get when I try and run the EMU - "deviation-emu_devo8-848e6ada8ca7.exe".
I cannot use it because it does not respond to my mouse clicks. I believe I was told it would be a color mouse enabled one also.

In the background you will see the manual but it has nothing in the way of how to run the EMU.

I have my TX running 2.1.1 and in USB mode. I have tried it with and without.

I have Windows 7 x64 pro.

I guess I need a using the "EMU for Dummy's step by step.

You need to extract the appropriate filesystem too into the emulator's directory...

Thanks, Before I stumble onward.

I only see the EMU's in the nightlies download section. So, is this for nightlies only?

Say, The latest Devo 10 nightly with the Devo 10 EMU.

Or can I use other combos? And to confirm, I can save these models and run them?

Thanks,

Download the Devo 10 emu, extract it.
Download the Devo 10 filesystem, extract it to the same folder

You don't need to download the firmware for the emu to work, just the EMU and FS (filesystem) zip files.

Today you need also to download & extract (in the dir where is your emu_devo10.exe) this deviation-fs-devo10-7cfcdbf7b69c :

Thanks,

I have it going. The DOS screen is scrolling:

Transmit successful
Switching to receive mode
Switching to transmit mode
Changed Channel to

And so on non-stop? Is this the norm?

What mode is required if any for the TX to be in.

Thanks.

Well, Sigh!

You guys are great but I gotta sound off........

Is there supposed to be a manual on how to use a particular EMU and its key stroke commands some place?

I am not as dense as I seem here believe me.

I have written my own custom skin GUI for the MIO c520 GPS, I build and clock my own and friends and family computers. I am an industrial maintenance technician of 30 years. Have dealt with Allen Bradley PLC's and more.

Never in my life have I had to encounter such vague or such prerequisites such as coming from the Womb already knowing what to do.

Again you guys are great and I need you I just wanted to let you know I am head banging over here and without you I am in a spin.

If and when I get this, if you guys do not give up on me, I am going to write a step by step for other poor slobs like me who stumble in here.

Getting this stuff in pieces is killing me.

Thanks,

Yes have a DOS screen and a Emulator, Black & White just like the Devo 10. But have no idea how to navigate in it.

I keep asking if the TX is required to be connected and to be powered up and if so in what mode but cannot get the info.

I also need a keystroke legend I guess.

And a Tylenol, Heh!

Transmitter do not need to be connected to use the emulator.

In the manual for devo you have a section with the navigation keys, and more.

sbstnp was faster :-)

OK, We are moving forward a little. Mercy!

1.) No TX power or connection required. Thought so but had to ask.

2.) Why I asked the above is because of the non responsiveness of the EMU on my PC.
I just found its required to "Run As Administrator" for it to respond, at my house anyways.

Still fumbling but really want the color & mouse pointer version so I trudge onward, THANKS!

Then use the devo8 emulator. The emulator is an exact copy of the tx. The devo10 has no color or touch screen.

I must say though that these key controls are tucked far away in said manual, and searching here doesn't come up with any instructions; maybe the EMU section of the manual could be split out / duplicated in it's own little instruction manual, so it's easy to find? For a newcomer, it's not very intuitive to find the instructions on how to run the emu, and even then the list of keys/commands doesn't at first make sense.
Maybe it needs a quick intro text, saying something along the lines of "Left column = keyboard key, right column = coresponding TX switch / stick". And maybe the first column for "channels" should be split into two, "Up" and "Down"?

Thanks guys. I'm doing much better now. I am using the Devo 8 EMU and can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I confess a major hurdle was the "Run as Administrator" requirement on my machine. If I had caught on sooner much less key strokes would have been made here.

I understand the "Use the manual" thing and rarely hear it here but respect it all the same. I have been using forums since the days of news groups and the Gateway 286 PC. I'm not thin skinned so fire at will.

I use the "Ctrl+F" combo in documents and Webb sites alot and sometimes it works and sometimes not but I do try.

All of you have shown patience of the saints.

I have extended the labels for emu_devo8 in this way a while ago for testing. If you are able to build your own version, I could send you the diff file. Or maybe I can build the emu_devo8-2.1.1 (last official version) with this extension.

And maybe the first column for "channels" should be split into two, "Up" and "Down"?

And the keys for trimming the channels... space runs out fast...

As a hint: the analog inputs are in the keyboard rows which starts with "q" (up) and "a" (down), from left to right. The trims use the same letters, but capitalized. The switches are in the "y"-row (all for English keyboard).

Yeah I figured it out, but first glance of the manual isn't very self-explanatory; I was suggesting some wording changes and intro text for the manual itself, not necessarily in the EMU.

I have downloaded all the files according to posts on this site. However I do not get all the screens per the following post.

i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r603/2thero...re-2_zps49e9d252.jpg

For some reason I cannot copy and paste the screen shot but it was posted by GAPI on this thread. :S

All I get are the USB screen and DOS screen. What am I missing?

So far I have been able to figure out a lot of my questions from reading the posts. I got my MODE 1 - MODE 2 fixed, and a few other things. But this EMU just does not want to work for me the way it sounds like it should work. :(
