Installing Frsky M9 Gimbal into Walkera Devo12S was created by richardclli
M9 Gimbal is too good that it uses a Hall effect chip instead of using a potentiometer. With the help of 3D printer, I have installed these gimbals into my beloved Devo 12S, there is the steps required:
1. Use 3D printer to print out custom parts:
2. Trim the plastic circled in yellow, so that it is with the same level as the installed part:
3. Install the part in both sides:
4. And install the tapper screws, make sure that you used the correct type of screw so that the surface is flat after installation:
5. The gimbals need some trimming in the plastic housing as well, so that it can fit into the controller without any problem:
Please note the orientation of the installation when you work out the trimming:

6. The part circled in yellow need to trim as well, otherwise it will affect other parts:
7. You need to make sure the locations circled in yellow is low enough so that it will not affect other parts:
8. This is the clam presser part and the photo shows how it works:
9. Install both gimbals and fasten the screws (M2x10 is used)
10: The power plug comes with the gimbal is suitable with Devo12S, just reused it and make sure the pins are organize like this:
11. Put everything together, and done!
12. Finally you need to manually adjust the tx.ini for the calibration, since the THR and ELE are reversed
[calibrate1] << AIL
max=3200
min=530
zero=1843
[calibrate2] << ELE,swap Min and Max after calibration
max=940
min=3680
zero=2219
[calibrate3] << THR,swap Min and Max after calibration
max=690
min=3340
zero=2041
[calibrate4] << RUD
max=3210
min=690
zero=1934
Finally, all done and start flying ^.^

Great tutorial! Looks very tempting
Despite the fact that the gimbals in my 12S are still in perfect shape (centering and travel range without jitter) this looks like a very good option to upgrade the gimbals.
Thank you very much, richardclli!

Very nice mod well done!!!! When sticks are full out too the sides, they do not touch, blocked byy the surroundings?
Seeing this, likely at some point someone will design and printout a full TX housing, then install f.i. a U7E board with deviation.
Were is this hobby going.......

Well, I can work out the design of the housing, anyway
May I ask what is the U7E board? The universal Tx board proposed by PB? Already done?

No there is some discussion in other topics were people are using standard ARM development module and hooking up display and pots switches. Also some one designed a small pcb, wich is functional compatible to the U7E, Ultimate 7e. Basically that could be inserted in Tx of choice.
But those projects are bit of stationary.

I have initiated another thread to see if we can build a custom Tx based.on available parts. See anybody in the community is interested.

for printing I used ABS instead od PLA, because ABS has higher melting point and will not get soften under sunlight.

Have a question about changing the min/max calibration..When they are reversed does the channel sliders still move as they should? Or will they be reversed on the display? Example is when throttle is raised will the channel display slider move up like it supposed to or will it move down? Also is it possible instead of reversing the calibration min/max setting just to simply flip the Hall sensor over 180 degrees to get the same results?

1. Hall sensors need to follow fixed Vcc and GND wiring, that is why it cannot be flipped like poteniometer.
2. Reversing the calibration will make the display normal, i.e. same movement and direction with the original gimbal.
3. If you do not want to reverse the calibration, another way is to use virtual channel to reverse the source first before feeding it in the channel, otherwise you may need to program wield curve to suit the.purpose.

Did you reuse the screws from the M9 gimbal plate to mount the printed plates to the transmitter case?
