First, I didn't start this thread, so I cannot edit the first post of this thread, and second I agree that it is more useful to add hardware/configuration related stuff to the wiki and voice menu related stuff to the manual. That is why I started the wiki page, but I hope someone else can fill up info and maybe add some more detailed information on configuring ini files. I'd rather spend time coding than documenting :P

I have checked the new voice.ini file (the one with 300 phrases) and it works great on my devo 12e. The numbering scheme seems was a bit confusing at first. The file numbers start at 200, but the numbers in the configuration screen start at 1, so if you have a particular numbered file to use then you need to know to subtract 199 from the file number to match the number on the screen. I use RD DR0 for throttle active (file # 265), so I need to choose 66 for the file number in the config screen; likewise RD DR1 is Throttle Hold (file #267), so i need to choose number 68. It's not terribly hard to use but it is confusing now that we have so many choices!

Besides that it's great. Thank you!

I know someone who produces voice materials (books on tape, podcasts, etc.) and I'm working to try compression on the sounds. This should help reduce or eliminate sounds being run over by the next alert... well, at least I hope that it will.

I have added some material to the WIKI page and of course it's a work in progress. It is intended to summarize the information we've gathered in this thread. Please add your own observations or notes and feel free to correct anything I've missed!

I have a few questions from working this material:
  • The Voice Alerts MP3 files appear to be located only in the test builds area. Should they be available from a different place, perhaps the Downloads section, but maybe in a separate "Voice Alerts" category?
  • Installing and configuring the voice system isn't difficult but it could be a large manual... should it be created as a separate manual from the standard ones?
  • Going forward do all nightly builds (and eventually the release) have support for the 400 voice alert files? Do the older 200 alert files work with the new nightly?
  • Is there anyone working with the AudioFX devices that can work with me to make sure the notes are consistent across the hardware?
  • Can we match the *.ogg files (required by the AudioFX devices) to the *.mp3 files or is there a conversion program?

Good work, deal57
  • once the voice pack is satisfying, I agree it should be uploaded in a separate section and in multiple languages. But the feedback on it has been sparse so far
  • I think it should go into the same manual
  • all future (and current) nightlies support 400 files, of course smaller voice.ini's still work
  • I can update the genspeech to also create ogg files for AudioFX useres

I have added a new section to the WIKI page with the details of installing the emulator voice alerts.

I am impressed by the tight integration of the voice alerts in the emulator. They function exactly like the transmitters and this is an incredibly useful alternative as I get to know this feature. I echo the sentiments of the previous message: thank you!

@52dgj: Yes, you can install into the Devo 10. Check out the Voice Alerts WIKI page for some ideas, and let us know if you need more information.

Good work on the wiki!

Actually the implementation of voice in the emulator was very crude in doing calls to an external program, but it really turned out to work extremely well for me during development, so I never found the need to do something more complex :P

I still have the Wishlist things in mind, but haven't found time for coding yet. As long as the rest works smooth, I'm not in a hurry. Haven't even found time to solder the new mcu in my devo7e which have been laying around here for weeks...

edit1: @deal57: I admire your clean devo12e installation. I guess we could also add a DPDT switch instead of the USB jack to switch between devo and dfplayer. Or does usb even allow both just to be connected in parallel to the internal jack? Haven't looked into the specs...

edit2: of course a y cabling is not permitted...either a low cost switch, or we might just geht a cheap usb hub in small footprint (for example this one ), remove its case and mount and solder it internally to the usb plug and devotx/dfplayer

Bonjour!

The French voice set ist still the limited pack made during development and only contains nine custom alerts. If you want, please download the voice-en-large.zip, translate all English descriptions and pm it to me or post it here. I can the quickly generate the large set in French and upload it to the downloads section.

Concerning goodbye message, it is a known bug.)

Crow is both flaps down and both ailerons up, mainly used in gliders. See example in this video:

OK. I wait until I have the rest of the pack, as it only takes me five minutes to generate the whole set.
